New Town Centre Plans Needed
Stephen Hammond MP has been working with local residents to challenge the plans for the redevelopment of Wimbledon Town Centre.
The previous Council administration left plans for a mixed development on the Morrisons car park site known as P3, in the hope of building some sort of community amenity on the car park of Wimbledon Theatre, known as P4.
Stephen wants the current plans for development to be reconsidered. He said, “There are very few major development sites left in Wimbledon and what we build today will be there for at least 25 years. There is no hurry for these developments. It is essential to undertake a proper consultation of what local residents want.
“The buildings should be of architectural merit and high design and build specification. They should also reflect the needs and wishes of Wimbledon Town Centre. We need some high quality community facilities and we need to ensure they are built in the centre of Wimbledon.”
